Old Town Alexandria Waterfront Area Flooding After Heavy Rains
Sandbags made available for City residents, local businesses; police warn residents, visitors to not walk or drive through standing water.
ALEXANDRIA, VA -- After a deluge of rain that started late Wednesday, the waterfront at Old Town Alexandria was flooding Thursday night, two hours before high tide. The Alexandria Police Department warned residents and visitors not to walk or drive through standing water.
Through noon Thursday, about 1-3 inches had fallen in the metro DC area, with more on the way, according to the National Weather Service.
The next high tides on Friday for Alexandria are at 8:39 a.m. and 9 p.m., according to the NWS.

Weather forecast for Friday:
Friday: Showers with periods of drizzle before 8am, then areas of drizzle with a chance of showers between 8am and 2pm, then showers likely after 2pm. High near 69. Northeast wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers likely before 8pm, then showers with areas of drizzle between 8pm and 2am, then a chance of showers after 2am. Low around 64. Northeast wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Police posted photos of the flooded area near the Alexandria watefront Thursday at about 6:30 p.m., about two hours before high tide. The region is under a Coastal Flood Advisory through midnight Friday and a Flash Flood Watch from the National Weather Service. The City is making sandbags available to residents and businesses.

Police also warned that they were relocating cars parked in areas that were flooding; for more information, call (703) 746-4444, if your car was towed.
