Planned Government Phone Outage Coming Thursday to Alexandria
Most City of Alexandria government phone numbers to be unavailable Thursday night, April 14, City says.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Due to planned major telephone system maintenance to its internal phone system, the phone lines for most City of Alexandria departments and offices will be unable to receive calls on Thursday evening, April 14, beginning at 5 p.m., the City announced Wednesday.
The phone system should be available again no later than midnight.
- Emergency 9-1-1 phone lines will still be available. Call 9-1-1 only if immediate police, fire, or emergency medical assistance is needed, the City notes.
- The police non-emergency numbers, 703.746.4444 and 703.838.4444, will still be available. Due to anticipated call volume on the evening of April 14, please call on another day unless urgent help is needed.
- The usual phone numbers for the City’s emergency hotlines will not work on the evening of April 14, including the hotlines for child protective services, domestic violence, mental health or substance abuse crisis, and sexual assault. Please call 703.746.4444 or 703.838.4444 to reach these hotlines on the evening of April 14 only.
