Plans Underway for Construction of New Alexandria Memory Care Building

Building will be located between Woodbine Rehabilitation Center and Ivy Hill cemetery on King Street.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Permits were filed last week for a temporary construction trailer to be on site at 2811 King St., as preparations get underway to build the future Alexandria Memory Care center, planned between Woodbine Rehabilitation Center and Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria.

According to the permit application, a construction trailer will be on site for about 14 months.

The new building was proposed by developer 2811 King Street LLC, Graham Adelman, president and owner of Cambridge Healthcare Management, based in Richmond, owner of Woodbine and nursing homes in Richmond, Charlottesville and Colonial Beach.

Adelman asked the City to rezone the land and approve the building plan. The City OK'd the plan last year.

Groups have voiced opinions on the development, both pro and con. The group, Taylor Run Citizens Association (TRCA), was concerned about the size of the building and potential for additional traffic.
“We’ve worked very hard to address concerns of the community,” M. Catharine Puskar, a representative for the developer said last year at the Planning Commission meeting. The company reduced the building height, increased the setback, increased open space and reduced the width of the building.
