Police Arrest Maryland Man Who Allegedly Sold Car He Didn't Own to Alexandria Resident

An Alexandria resident saw an ad on craigslist and paid the man cash for the car, but police say he didn't own it.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The Alexandria Police Department has made an arrest after a Maryland resident sold a car he didn't own to an Alexandria resident who paid $6,500 in cash for the vehicle after seeing an ad on craigslist, according to police.

Police arrested Javon Thompson, 28, of Maryland, for Grand Larceny by False Pretenses and Altering a Certificate of Title.

In December 2015, Thompson listed a vehicle for sale on craigslist, police said. He sold the vehicle in Alexandria to the resident for $6,500 cash, according to police.

The resident soon found out that the vehicle did not belong to Thompson and the title was not legitimate, police said. Work by Alexandria Police Department detectives and Department of Motor Vehicle investigators led to locating and arresting the suspect.
