Police Make 2 Arrests During DWI Crackdown

Alexandria police stop 51 vehicles in enforcement effort.

Alexandria police stopped more than 50 vehicles and made two arrests overnight between June 22 and June 23 as part of a citywide Driving While Intoxicated crackdown.

Police stopped 51 vehicles and made two DWI arrests. In addition, 25 summonses and 26 warnings were issued for various traffic offenses.

Four Alexandria police officers and one sergeant participated in the effort.

The maximum penalty in Virginia for a first-time conviction for driving under the influence is 12 months in jail, a $2,500 fine and a 12-month suspension of driving privileges.

In addition, there are mandatory jail terms associated with DWI offenses depending upon the blood alcohol content of the driver.
