Portner Brewhouse, Set to Open in December in Alexandria, on the Hunt for Head Chef

Brewery, restaurant eyeing a December opening at 5770 Dow Ave. in the City's West End.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Its customers can't live on craft beer alone: Portner Brewhouse is looking for a head chef to open their new 150-seat restaurant and brewery when it opens in December.

The brewery restaurant and Craft Beer Test Kitchen is inspired by the South’s largest pre-Prohibition brewery, The Robert Portner Brewing Company, which was headquartered in Old Town Alexandria, from 1869 until Virginia passed Prohibition in 1916. Catherine and Margaret Portner, two of Robert Portner’s great-great granddaughters, will open their new brewery restaurant featuring craft beer and German-American cuisine.

An ad for the chef position, placed a few days ago, reads: "Chefs will have the opportunity to run their own kitchen and put their own touch on the brewpub's menu. We encourage using seasonal and local ingredients, making home made sausages and pretzels, and executing appropriate regional American cuisine and class German cuisine. Experience with Bavarian food is a plus, not a requirement."

Can't wait for the restaurant to open? Check out an upcoming brew tour and tasting.
