Reminder: New Red-Light Camera Goes 'Live' Friday in Alexandria

Police started using additional camera in August. Warning period ends Thursday; police to begin ticketing violators Friday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The Alexandria Police Department started using an additional camera as part of the Red Light Photo Safety Program on August 22 at Duke Street and W. Taylor Run Parkway. A warning period is in effect through Thursday, but starting Friday, fines will be issued for all citations.

Five existing cameras are located at:
• South Patrick Street and Gibbon Street (both directions of travel)
• Duke Street and South Walker Street (both directions of travel)
• South Patrick Street and Franklin Street

Cameras operate 24-hours a day and capture images of every vehicle running red lights at those intersections. Warning signs alerting drivers to the red-light cameras have been installed prior to the warning period, police noted.

The Alexandria Police Department’s program is administered by Redflex Traffic Systems (http://www.redflex.com). Each violation will be reviewed and approved by the Alexandria Police Department prior to being issued.
