Two City schools went into lockdown mode Monday morning after the robbery at 2809 Mount Vernon Ave. The school system put out alerts between about 10:15-10:30 a.m., letting the community know that Cora Kelly and Mount Vernon were in what the school system calls "lock in" mode. About an hour later, the schools resumed normal activities.
The suspect is still at large.
Alexandria police said no one was injured in the robbery; they said the suspect passed a note but did not have a weapon. The FBI said he also did not imply he had a weapon.
Another bank was robbed in the Falls Church area on Saturday morning, but the FBI said that robbery is the work of a serial bank robber, who is suspected of robbing six banks in the area in the past two years. That man is described as being 6' to 6'2" tall with a stocky build.
