Stay Fit, Give Back Through Carpenter's Shelter Partnership with Fitness on the Run

Nonprofit shelter and fitness group partner to help community members stay fit during the holiday season while giving back.

and have partnered to offer a Thanksgiving food and fitness challenge in an effort to help participants get in shape for the holidays while giving back to the community.

The challenge is to walk, run, hop, skip or jump 150,000 steps during October and to donate at least one food basket to the shelter. The partnership is also encouraging participants to ask their friends and family to donate a food item for each fitness milestone.

Carpenter’s Shelter Constituent  Relationship Officer Courtney Bishop said more than 100 shelter clients receive items to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner, but the shelter relies solely on donations from the local community to provide the assistance.

“The holidays are a perfect time to give thans and enjoy time with our loved ones. That often includes indulging in food and spirits that can have a negative impact on our waistlines,” said Fitness on the Run Co-Owner Denise Dick.

Prizes will be awarded for the most steps for the month and a bonus award will be given to the participant who donates the most food baskets.
