Torpedo Factory Art Center Names New CEO

The  Board has appointed Harry Mahon interim chief executive officer of the center.

“The board is very pleased to have Mr. Mahon in this leadership role," said Susan Corrigan, president of the Torpedo Center's board. "He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about Alexandria, the arts, and nonprofit organizations, as well as successful business experience."

Under the direction of the board, appointed by Alexandria City Council in 2010, Mahon will manage the center's operations including assisting in strategic planning, resource development and other new board initiatives.

“I am honored to be working with the Torpedo Factory Art Center Board to build a solid future for this vibrant city asset,” said Mahon.

Mahon previously served as president and trustee of the Northern Fine Arts Association, based at the . While there, he led a renovation of the Athenaeum interior and established collaborations with The Washington Ballet, Songwriters Association of Washington and other regional arts groups.

He is the creator of ArtsDC.com and ArtsMedia News.

He also has worked in the telecommunications industry for companies such as AT&T, GE and INTELSAT and has served on a variety of Alexandria city commissions. He lives in Old Town with his wife, Twig Murray, and son Jamie.

The mission of the Torpedo Factory Art Center Board is to enhance art appreciation and education by providing opportunities for the public to visit working art studios and galleries and participate in art classes and events.

The 13-member board is composed of representatives of the arts community and Alexandriaresidents with expertise in areas such as management, finance, marketing, fund raising, and planning. The Board recently was granted 501c3 charitable status as a nonprofit corporation, expanding its ability to raise funds for TFAC.
