Voters Head to the Polls Tuesday for Special Election

Polls are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The deadline for in-person absentee voting in this special election has passed. However, the deadline for the to receive an absentee ballot by mail or dropped off in person by the voter is Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. Alexandria's voter registration office is located at 132 N. Royal St. in Old Town.

Tuesday is also the first day of school for many area students and multiple public schools serve as voting sites. A spokeswoman for Alexandria City Public Schools said that schools have been working with city officials "to coordinate efforts and are ready to accommodate voters on Tuesday."
