Although the George Washington Birthday Parade in Old Town Alexandria has passed, many local groups are celebrating Washington’s birthday throughout this month.

In addition, there’s free music and more in Alexandria and beyond. Here’s your weekend planner:

Walking with Washington

Why go: There are dozens and dozens of places in Old Town associated with George Washington—here’s your chance to learn about some of them and impress your out-of-town visitors with your local history knowledge.

George Washington and Religion: Private Man and Public Issues

When/Where: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at the George Washington Masonic Memorial, 101 Callahan Drive.

Why go: A free, educational symposium on Washington’s life and the role of religion in it. Sponsored by the Freemasons as part of Washington’s birthday celebration.

Acoustic Blues Night

When/where: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at La Fromagerie Cheese and Wine Bistro, 1222 King St.

4th Annual Winter Caberet featuring The Alexandria Singers

African-American Film Festival: The Color Purple

When/where: 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24 at Beatley Central Library.

Why go: The library is showcasing films that highlight African-American history and culture in honor of Black History Month.

Sports Cards and Comic Book Show

When/where: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Ballroom at the Tysons Corner Va. Crowne Plaza, 1960 Chain Bridge Rd.

Why go: It’s a bit of a drive, but reviews are good about this expo with vintage and new comic books and sports card, collectibles, antiques and hobby supplies.

Price: $3 admission.
