Election Day, Veterans Day Holiday Closures Planned In Alexandria
More closures are planned on Veterans Day in Alexandria, but select services will be closed on Election Day.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The City of Alexandria will observe two upcoming holidays — Election Day and Veterans Day — but only one will result in widespread holiday closures.
On Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 5), voters will head to the polls to cast their ballots in the presidential election, congressional elections and city elections. The City of Alexandria government and many offices will be open on Nov. 5. On Veterans Day (Monday, Nov. 11), city government offices will be closed.

Here are the closings to know for Election Day and Veterans Day holiday in Alexandria.
Alexandria City Public Schools: Students have no school on Oct. 31 due to a professional learning day, Nov. 1 due to Diwali, Nov. 4 due to conferences, Nov. 5 due to Election Day and a professional learning day, and Nov. 11 due to Veterans Day.

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: No changes were announced for Nov. 5. On Nov. 11, it is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For animal emergency or wildlife concerns, call 703-746-4444.
Courts: On Nov. 5, Alexandria General District Court, Circuit Court, and Clerk of Circuit Court will be closed. On Nov. 11, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court, and the Clerk of Circuit Court will be closed.
DASH Bus: No changes were announced for Nov. 5 or Nov. 11. On Nov. 11, DASH bus service will operate on a regular service schedule. The free King Street Trolley operates from King Street Metro to City Hall/Market Square (301 King St.) with service every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., every day.
DMV: Virginia DMV locations are closed on Nov. 11. Customers should check the hours of their local DMV Select location, as it may operate outside of the state holiday closing schedule.
Health facilities: The Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School’s King Street Campus and Minnie Howard Campus will be closed on Nov. 5 and 11.
Historic Alexandria facilities: No changes were announced for Nov. 5 and 11. All museums will operate according to their standard schedules. Due to construction, Freedom House is open on weekends only through early January. Group visits are available by special appointment.
Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the Child Protective Services Hotline at 703-746-5800; the Domestic Violence Hotline at 703-746-4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the Adult Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5778 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-683-7273.
Impound lot: Closed on Nov. 11. The impound lot is closed on all weekends and observed city holidays. Fees will continue to accrue on Saturday and Sunday, but not on holidays.
Library: The Alexandria Law Library will be closed on Nov. 5. All Alexandria Library branches will be closed on Nov. 11.
Metro: No changes are planned on Nov. 5. On Nov. 11, Metrorail will operate from 5 a.m. to midnight on a Saturday holiday schedule.
Parking enforcement: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts on Nov. 11. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces and does not permit parking in any normally prohibited location. Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced.
Post offices: Open on Nov. 5 and closed on Nov. 11.
Recreation, nature and art centers: Charles Houston, Chinquapin Park, and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 11. All other City of Alexandria recreation and nature centers will be closed. Torpedo Factory Art Center is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. according to its standard operating schedule on Nov. 11.
Trash and recycling: The Household Hazardous Waste Electronic Collection Drop-Off Center will be closed on Nov. 11. Residential refuse and recycling collection will be delayed by one day during the week of Nov. 11. Curbside food waste collection will follow the normal collection service schedule.
Virginia Railway Express: VRE has regular service on Nov. 5 and no service on Nov. 11.
