Portsmouth 19-year-old sentenced to 12 years for fatal shooting (pilotonline.com) — A 19-year-old Portsmouth resident has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a 2023 shooting at the London Oaks apartment complex that killed a bystander walking near a playground. Jurors convicted him of voluntary manslaughter and firearm charges, and he’ll also face five years of supervised probation after release, while two other Portsmouth residents were also charged in the case.

Documents show mom wanted for alleged parental abduction in Suffolk has joint custody (wtkr.com) — A Suffolk mother wanted on parental kidnapping charges says a Portsmouth Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court order grants her joint legal custody of her two daughters. She’s moving to quash the arrest warrant, while police and family members are being asked for clarification about the girls’ status and custody arrangements.
   

4. Virginia Lottery reminds people to ‘gift responsibly' this holiday season (wavy.com) — Portsmouth residents are being reminded that lottery tickets should only be gifted to adults this holiday season, as Virginia law bans anyone under 18 from playing or receiving them. The Virginia Lottery’s director stresses that early exposure to gambling can increase addiction risks, urging families to choose more enriching gifts for kids instead of scratchers in their stockings.
