On-Duty VSU Officer Injured In Campus Shooting; Suspect At Large
The Virginia State officer is facing life-threatening injuries after the Sunday shooting.
PETERSBURG — An on-duty Virginia State University police officer is suffering life-threatening injuries after being shot Sunday near the school campus, VSU said in a news release.
The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. when the officer was responding to a campus disturbance, according to the release. The nature of the disturbance was not released.
The suspect was accused of running from the campus before firing shots, injuring the officer, according to the release. The suspect remains at large.

VSU was locked down Sunday as a precaution, according to the release.
The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating the shooting.

"CCPD stands in unwavering solidarity with our partners at Virginia State University," Chesterfield County Police Chief Col. Jeffrey S. Katz said in a statement. "We will not rest until the individual who their officer is brought to justice."
