Nonprofit Richmond Hill to begin $1M backyard preservation project next year (richmondbizsense.com) — Richmond Hill is moving ahead with a $1.1 million “Judy Project” to restore a former slave dwelling on its Church Hill campus and create an education center about Richmond’s slave-trade history. The nonprofit is also rewilding its backyard garden with new stormwater infrastructure and native plants, aiming to host tours and programs that connect faith, history, and racial healing for Richmond residents.
   

2. Richmond's Scott's Addition to reinstate parking enforcement after years without (wric.com) — Parking enforcement is coming back to parts of Scott’s Addition on Jan. 5, 2026, with select high-demand commercial streets returning to timed-parking to improve turnover. Many residential blocks will stay free and untimed, but drivers should carefully follow posted signs. The city will monitor the changes and work with neighborhood leaders to review results in 2027.
   

3. Fourth woman sues Richmond breast surgeon, alleging procedures beyond scope of practice (wtvr.com) — A fourth woman has filed a federal lawsuit against former Richmond-area breast surgeon Dr. Sasa Espino, along with Richmond Breast Center and CJW hospitals, alleging surgeries beyond her training left her with lasting injuries. The case follows earlier suits by other women and raises questions about how Richmond-area hospitals credential surgeons for complex breast reconstruction procedures.
   

4. Richmond's mail processing center whirs into gear during the holidays (richmond.com) — Richmond’s Regional Processing and Distribution Center in Sandston is the busy hub pushing millions of holiday cards and packages across Virginia, even as photos show congestion, manual sorting, and staffing strains. Images from early October documented backed-up docks, water-damaged mail, and piles of letters around equipment. Postal officials say they’re promoting healthy practices while keeping the region’s holiday mail moving.
   

5. Aletha Pearl Solomon (ocala-news.com) — Richmond readers are invited to remember Aletha Pearl Solomon, who was born here in 1930 before later settling in Florida and becoming a devoted Jehovah’s Witness. Her life story highlights her farm childhood, deep faith, and the large family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who now carry on her memory.
