State water board OKs new pollution limits for James River tributaries (vpm.org) — Richmond neighborhoods like Windsor Farms, Westhampton, and Willow Lawn now face strict new pollution limits after state regulators approved major sediment and phosphorus reductions for Jordan’s Branch and other James River tributaries. City and county governments must develop stormwater and streambank fixes that could significantly change how local development, streets, and runoff are managed over the next few years.
   

2. The Lights Are On! Richmond's Tacky Lights Season Has Begun (rvamag.com) — Richmond’s beloved Tacky Lights season is back, with homes across the city and surrounding Central Virginia glowing through New Year’s Eve for evening drive-by tours. A long list of standout addresses helps you plan your route, while RVA Magazine also asks locals to support its independent coverage of Richmond’s arts and culture scene.
   

3. VMFA returns trafficked 6th-century terracotta fragments to Turkey (wric.com) — Richmond’s Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has returned 41 ancient terracotta reliefs to Türkiye after investigators confirmed they were illegally excavated and trafficked. VMFA leaders say stolen or looted art has no place in their collection and worked with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Antiquities Trafficking Unit to repatriate the $400,000 worth of artifacts to their 6th-century B.C. temple site.
   

4. VCU student to graduate for second time, honoring late mother's memory (nbc12.com) — A VCU student in Richmond is preparing to walk the graduation stage for the second time, this time earning his own psychology degree after previously accepting his late mother’s diploma. Drawing on her example and his advocacy for sickle cell awareness, he now hopes to become a therapist helping others navigate grief and healing.

Spanberger appoints ex-FBI agent, who led field office that issued Catholic memo, for top safety job (washingtontimes.com) — Virginia Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger has tapped former FBI official Stanley Meador, who once led the FBI’s Richmond field office, to oversee public safety and homeland security. His role in the controversial “Richmond memo” on Catholic extremism is drawing renewed scrutiny as he prepares to take on a powerful statewide position.
