Veterans Day -- A Salute of Gratitude

Veterans Day is a holiday to thank American veterans for their loyalty, patriotism, selfless service, and sacrifices for our Nation

Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed annually on November 11 to celebrate those who served honorably in the United States Armed Forces. It is a day of gratitude to thank American veterans for their loyalty, patriotism, selfless service, and sacrifices for our Nation.

According to the Pew Research Center data, approximately 7% of Americans have served in the military. These 18 million veterans served to ensure the safety of all Americans by protecting the homeland, securing key assets, and national interests while fighting wars when called upon. The stress of military life weighs heavily on military veterans. Many service members experience issues, such as suicide, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, traumatic brain injury (TBI), substance use disorder (SUD), and interpersonal violence. Combat and deployments are associated with higher risks for mental health conditions but military service in general is also stressful and can lead to behavioral health challenges.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) offers a variety of assistance programs designed to help veterans. The VFW is a nonprofit organization comprised of United States military veterans and service members who participated in overseas wars or conflicts. The VFW provides advocacy or assistance to veterans in need of help filing or appealing a VA claim, emergency financial relief, or resource referrals. There are also educational scholarships available.
