Here are the top six stories in Roanoke today:

  1. The Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP) and Angels of Assisi have announced that they are overflowing with rescued animals and have joined forces to host an adoption event today. The event will be located at 1510 Baldwin Avenue NE in Roanoke from 1 to 4 p.m. "Adoption fees will vary between the organizations but will be $25 or less," said Dayna Reynolds, Community Engagement Director for Angels of Assisi.   2. The Aware Foundation of Roanoke posted on Facebook that a missing person report has been filed for a 13 year old girl last reported seen on June 7. Samiyah Jarvis lived on Edgemont Avenue and is described as having brown/red hair and brown eyes, 5-foot-3 and 150-160 pounds. "To anyone that may be helping Samiyah Jarvis, harboring a runaway in the state of Virginia is a crime. Do the right thing,” Aware said in its post. (WDBJ)
  3. The Roanoke County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of a house fire in the Vinton area that left two people displaced. The home was located in the Mountain View Road area of eastern Roanoke County and happened shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday. Fire fighters responded and had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. (WDBJ)
  4. The voice of an era at K92 Radio has announced that he will be leaving the show. He has been at the microphone of for 20 years. Zack Jackson, host of the “K92 Mornin’ Thang” said in a statement on Facebook that he will leaving to focus on other ventures including his small business marketing agency, but that he will still be working with the station on content creation.   5. Renee “Butch” Craft, owner of The Roanoker, and Samantha Craft, general manager of the long time restaurant, have made a special donation to the Roanoke City Fire EMS Department. The donation is in the form of a painting that was commissioned in the early 80s by the then owner of the restaurant and depicts the former No. 1 Fire Station on Church Avenue in downtown Roanoke. The Roanoker restaurant closed late last month and the owner decided the painting would be better displayed locally than sold. (WSLS 10)
  6. Roanoke City Police are working to determine the circumstances of a shooting that happened on Bluestone Avenue NE that left two people with non-life threatening injuries. The shooting happened Thursday night around 7 p.m. The victims were taken to Roanoke Memorial for treatment. Police say no suspects have been found or arrested. (WDBJ)
