📰 News we're reading

1. Va. lawmakers prioritize establishing Gaming Commission as senator plans to re-introduce Fairfax casino bill despite pushback (wusa9.com) — State lawmakers are reviving the idea of a casino in Tysons while also pushing to create a single Virginia Gaming Commission to oversee all gambling. Fairfax County supervisors narrowly opposed the latest Tysons casino bill, citing land-use and revenue concerns, but Sen. Scott Surovell still plans to reintroduce it as budget pressures and regulatory debates intensify.

2. Northern Virginia Family Services: Community Support Changes Lives (fairfaxcounty.gov) — Families in and around Tysons can access food and other support through Northern Virginia Family Services, which runs distribution points at its Tysons site and across Fairfax County. The organization offers everything from groceries and rent help to job training and mental health counseling, while a county employment specialist helps residents on public assistance overcome barriers like childcare and transportation to find stable work.

3. Fairfax Co. approves plan to significantly increase fees for trespass tows (wtop.com) — If your car gets trespass-towed anywhere in Fairfax County, including Tysons, you’ll now pay significantly higher fees — $210 instead of $150 for a passenger vehicle, plus increased storage and administrative charges. County leaders say the hikes match state-allowed maximums and help towing companies cover rising costs, but several residents argued the higher fees unfairly punish people for simple parking mistakes.

4. 'National Security' at Risk If MSCI Excludes Crypto Treasuries, Warns Bitcoin Giant Strategy (decrypt.co) — A Tysons Corner-based crypto treasury company is urging index provider MSCI not to exclude firms that hold large amounts of digital assets, arguing such a move could harm U.S. national security and innovation. The firm cites the Trump administration’s pro-crypto stance and warns the proposal would unfairly discriminate against companies with significant Bitcoin holdings, potentially triggering major market outflows and undermining America’s tech edge.
