100% Of Car Batteries Replaced By AAA Are Recycled
Going Green: AAA Annual Earth Day Campaign Funds the Growth of National Forests

TYSONS CORNER, VA (April 21, 2023) – From now through the end of the month, AAA will fund the planting of one new tree for every battery recycled by its Emergency Roadside Service team, or at any AAA Car Care location. The annual ‘Batteries for Trees’ campaign, now in its 12th year, has, to date, funded the planting of nearly 40,000 trees through the Arbor Day Foundation. This year, the goal is to add another 11,000, bringing AAA’s total contribution to more than 50,000 trees planted in our National Forests.
“As an organization, AAA is committed to environmental sustainability as it correlates directly with our highest priority - the well-being of our Members, Associates and the communities we serve,” says Amber Zionkowski, Corporate Citizenship Manager. “Our ‘Batteries for Trees’ campaign aligns with these values.”
In addition to the battery recycling initiative, customers who visit any AAA Retail store or AAA Car Care center can also help plant a tree by donating $1 or more. And, AAA Associates are encouraged to volunteer at local Earth Day events.

Every Day is Earth Day at AAA
Eco-friendly business practices are a top priority for AAA year-round. As an example, 100% of car batteries replaced by AAA are recycled. This critical practice has significant environmental benefits, including the reduction of toxic waste and the needless creation of new materials.

An Expanding Fleet of “Green” Machines
For several years, AAA has been expanding its fleet of vehicles powered by alternative fuels. To date, almost two dozen of our service trucks are fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG). These ‘green’ trucks use renewable natural gas (RNG), which offsets AAA’s carbon footprint by more than 300 tons of carbon dioxide per year over fossil natural gas.
EV Fleet Trucks and Charging Stations
In addition to the car battery recycling program and the greening of our Fleet, AAA supports America’s transition to electric vehicles. In some locations, AAA now has trucks that offer Emergency Roadside charging to Members with electric vehicles. Additional trucks are scheduled to arrive in the coming months, including in the D.C. metro area.
Electric vehicle drivers can find additional charging locations throughout the country through AAA’s TripTik Planner feature that can be found on the AAA Mobile app or at TripTik.AAA.com. AAA offers additional resources and information to assist electric vehicle owners and educate consumers about electric vehicles at AAA Exchange.
