I-495 Lane Closures In Tysons This Weekend Planned Due To Pedestrian Bridge Installation
VDOT work crews will be closing parts of I-495 in Tysons this weekend to allow for the installation of a new bicycle/pedestrian bridge.

TYSONS, VA — Drivers traveling on the Capital Beltway/I-495 in the Tysons area during the overnight hours this weekend may want to find an alternate route in order to avoid backups caused by scheduled road closures.
Virginia Department of Transportation will be closing both the Inner Loop and Outer Loop between Routes 123 and 7 overnight on Friday and Saturday for the installation of a new pedestrian bridge truss.

- Friday, April 22: VDOT will close the three left southbound lanes of I-495 (Outer Loop) between Routes 123 and 7 from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., with full stoppages of each lane for about 20 minutes from midnight to 5 a.m. In addition, the righthand lane of the southbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. between the Jones Branch Connector (Scotts Crossing Road) and Route 123. All southbound express lanes will be closed at Westpark Drive and traffic will be diverted using the Westpark Drive on and off ramps.
- Saturday, April 23: VDOT will close the three left northbound lanes of I-495 (Inner Loop) between Routes 123 and 7 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., with full stoppages of each for about 20 minutes from midnight to 5 a.m. In addition, the righthand lane of the northbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. between the Route 7 and Westpark Drive. All northbound express lanes will be stopped for periods of 20 minutes each from midnight to 5 a.m.
All construction work is subject to weather conditions. In case of inclement weather, the work will be rescheduled.
This weekend's work is being done as part of the $13.4 million Tysons/Old Meadow Road Bike/Ped Improvements project, which seeks to enhance bicycle and pedestrian connectivity in the Tysons area.

The new bridge over I-495 will connect a 10-foot-wide shared-use path from Tysons One Place and Fashion Boulevard to Old Meadow Road and Provincial Drive. Bridgework is expected to be finished this summer.
