'Common sense team' seeks Republican votes in Democrat primary

Republican voters should not be voting in the Senate District 37 primary

In recent weeks, a number of TV commercials have appeared, notably on conservative-leaning “Fox News” and “Fox Business News,” urging votes for the “Common Sense Team” in the June 20 primary election in Fairfax County.

These slick ads make no mention that all three candidates are Democrats and there is NO Republican Primary on June 20. They are paid for by Chap Petersen for Senate.

The June 20 primary is an "open primary" meaning any registered voter can vote.

Mr. Petersen clearly fears defeat because liberal Democrat voters are abandoning him for challenger Saddam Salim, largely for killing a ban on semi-automatic rifles in Virginia. Chap is clearly mining for votes among Republican voters with these ads on conservative news channels, calling himself the "People's Senator."

But in reality, he is the “Democrats’ Senator,” and I would urge Republicans, Independents and Democrats concerned with inflation, crime, failing schools and other issues to NOT VOTE IN THE JUNE PRIMARY FOR STATE SENATE IN DISTRICT 37.

That’s because this fall, there will be a Republican on the ballot for the first time in 12 years in District 37, which comprises the Cities of Fairfax and Falls Church, plus Vienna, Oakton, Merrifield, Pimmit Hills, Dunn Loring and Tysons (among other communities).

That GOP candidate is me, Ken Reid, who served 10 years as a councilmember and county supervisor in Loudoun and ran a successful publishing business for 30 years. I am the Choice for Change and need your help.

Here’s what I support if elected this fall:•

• Parents rights. Parents should not be sidelined by school boards. We must teach kids how to think, not what to think.

• Supporting investments in real transportation solutions. We need interchanges on Fairfax County Parkway and sections of Route 50 and more state funding for Metro.

• Fully funding and modernizing our police.

• Supporting tax cuts where needed and less regulation and red tape.

• Reforming state rules that currently disadvantage Fairfax schools for state funding (the composite index).

Don’t be fooled by entrenched professional politicians who want your vote in the June 20 primary for District 37. Instead, work to elect a Republican to State Senate in Fairfax County. My web site is www.KenReid.org and appreciate your support.
