Fairfax County Park Authority and Department of Transportation Hosts Design Public Hearing

The Fairfax County Park Authority and Department of Transportation will host a Design Public Hearing on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Westgate Elementary School, 7500 Magarity Road, Falls Church, from 6:30 - 8 :30 p.m., with a formal presentation at 7:15 p.m. Attendees can review project material and property impact information, learn about the tentative schedule and ask the project team questions.

Written and oral comments will be collected at the hearing; individuals may also submit comments using the form on this page. All comments must be submitted within 10 days following the hearing, no later than close of business, Friday, November 25.

Project Background

The Scott’s Run Trail project will provide 2,676 linear feet of new 8-foot wide pedestrian trail connecting Magarity Road at Westgate Elementary School to Colshire Meadow Drive near the McLean Metro Station. Its purpose is to facilitate pedestrian access to/from the metro station for local residents. The trail will be lighted and include a 90’ bridge over Scotts Run Stream and a 50’ bridge over a tributary. The trail will be located within Scott’s Run Stream Valley Park and Westgate Park, which is primarily within Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) property. This project is lis being designed in partnership with FCPA.
The Scott’s Run Trail project is included in the Tysons Metrorail Station Access Management Study (TMSAMS). The goal of the TMSAMS projects is to create a more multi-modal transportation environment by building needed infrastructure to create better access to the Metrorail stations within Tysons. The project is part of the Transportation Priorities Plan approved by the Board on January 28, 2014.
The estimated project cost is $2,075,500, and is funded with Federal Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) and the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvements Program (CMAQ).

Land acquisition for the project is scheduled for Summer2017, with final design and permitting in Spring 2018. Construction is scheduled to begin in Fall 2019.
