TSA PreCheck® Pop-Up Events Coming To Northern Virginia AAA Locations
Appointments for August Pop Up Events Now Available

Vienna, VA (July 12, 2023)—The Transportation Security Administration set a new daily record leading up to the 4th of July holiday, processing nearly 2.9 million travelers at security checkpoints at airports all across the country on Friday, June 30th. That beat the old record set back at Thanksgiving in 2019. In total, the TSA processed nearly 77 million passengers in the month of June. With busy airports and long security lines likely to continue throughout the summer season and into the end of the year holidays, air travelers can ease their pain and get through checkpoints faster by taking advantage of a special TSA PreCheck® enrollment opportunity.
The mobile Transportation Security Administration (TSA) truck and Idemia TSA Precheck® agents will be on site at two AAA locations in Northern Virginia in August to enroll those who have pre-registered and scheduled appointments.

Despite airline ticket prices running 40 to 50% more than last year, bookings haven’t slowed down this summer. The AAA 4th of July travel forecast predicted a record setting number of travelers taking to the air for the holiday, and AAA’s international travel bookings for Memorial Day this year were up 250% compared to last year. TSA PreCheck® is available at 200+ U.S. airports and in Nassau, The Bahamas.
“With the busy summer travel season in full swing, this TSA PreCheck® enrollment opportunity couldn’t come at a better time for travelers anticipating long airport lines,” said AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesperson Ragina Ali. “TSA PreCheck® enables identified, low-risk air travelers to enjoy an expedited and efficient security screening experience.”
Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are filling fast. These AAA pop-up events last fall booked up weeks ahead of time, showing the popularity of the service and the pent-up demand for TSA PreCheck®. Online registration and appointment scheduling must be completed in advance.

Mobile Idemia agents will process TSA PreCheck® applications on-site. To complete the application process, you will need to bring documentation proving identity and citizenship status. Your name on the documents must match exactly. If they do not, bring an original or certified copy of a court ordered name change document (to include marriage certificates and divorce decrees). If you have a valid U.S. passport, that is all you need for ID.
You will finish the process onsite by providing your fingerprints for a background check. The application fee is $78 and can be paid by credit card, money order, company check, or certified/cashier's check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted.
Following the in-person enrollment appointment, most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) in about three to five days. The KTN number must be added to flight reservations to enjoy TSA PreCheck® benefits.
TSA PreCheck® was created in December 2011 as a way to provide low-risk travelers with a smoother experience through airport security. It’s a great option for travelers looking to save time. Enrolled members do not need to remove shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids, belts, or light jackets. They also access TSA PreCheck® dedicated screening lanes at over 200 participating U.S. airports nationwide.
TSA PreCheck® is valid for 5 years. In addition, children ages 12 and younger may use the TSA PreCheck® lane when traveling with a parent or guardian who has the indicator on their boarding pass. Travelers 13 years of age and older without a TSA PreCheck® boarding pass must go through standard security lanes.
AAA travel experts will also be on hand at the pop-up event to help book flights, hotels, cruises or other travel arrangements, provide travel planning resources, and offer a variety of luggage and other travel accessories to make trips more convenient and enjoyable.
