26 Vienna Runners Compete in Boston Marathon; Conditions Unknown for Several

When explosions were reported around 3 p.m. Monday near the finish line of the 117th Boston Marathon, some 26 Vienna runners were registered to run in the race.
As of Monday night, three people were reported dead and more than 140 were injured, reports Back Bay Patch.

There are 26 Vienna residents and a total of 654 Virginia residents who registered to run the 2013 Boston Marathon, according to race data.

It was not immediately clear whether any local runners were injured. Based on early race results, about nine runners did not post finish times.
The race shut down as soon as security became a concern. According to video of the explosions, they occurred before 4:10 on the race clock.

Boston officials said Monday night "We can confirm that all of the remaining runners who were out on the course when the tragic events unfolded have been returned to a community meeting area."
