Wednesday: 70th Annual Halloween Parade Scheduled in Vienna

VIENNA, VA -- Make plans Wednesday to attend the Town of Vienna's 70th Annual Halloween Parade. The parade route on Maple Avenue is approximately half a mile long and the parade is expected to last just under two hours. Groups marching in the parade should be prepared with warm clothes, comfortable shoes and flashlights. The parade is held rain or shine.

Here's a look at road closures for Wednesday in Vienna for the parade:

Roads closed beginning at 5 p.m.

The theme of this year’s parade: Platinum Edition: “Jive Back to the 1940’s.” In 1946, the first Vienna Halloween Parade was held. The Parade Committee encourages everyone entering this year’s parade to celebrate the decade of the 1940s, with its music, fashion and historic events.

The categories for judging parade entrants are as follows:

• Youth Band
• Adult Band
• Float with Music
• Float without Music
• Youth Performers
• Adult Performers
• Antique Vehicles

Floats will be judged on creativity and theme interpretation. This year’s award ceremony will be held during the Nov. 7, 2016 Town Council meeting at 8 p.m. A reception will also be held prior to the meeting, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Vienna Town Hall. Winners will be notified in advance by email only.

For children who want to wear costumes and walk in the parade, no forms are necessary; simply meet at 6:30 p.m. in the United Bank parking lot at 374 Maple Avenue E. Children must be accompanied by a grownup.
