Aretha Franklin Wolf Trap Concert Canceled Due to Illness

Wolf Trap officials announced cancellation Monday of highly anticipated summer concert.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Singer Aretha Franklin has announced the cancellation of upcoming tour dates, including a performance at Wolf Trap this Friday, August 26, Wolf Trap officials announced Monday afternoon. All patrons who purchased tickets through Wolf Trap channels are entitled to refunds, the organization said.

Wolf Trap included this statement from Franklin:

“Regretfully, due to doctors’ orders I will have to cancel a few concerts for the next month or so. I'm especially disappointed because two of them are among my favorite cities, Washington D.C. and New York. I don't want to miss any.”

Often called the "Queen of Soul," Franklin, 74, is known for her many hits, including "Respect," (You Make Me Feel Like) "A Natural Woman" and "Think." She's performed at the White House, earned 18 Grammys and has recorded dozens of songs that have charted on Billboard. She brought the house down last year at the Kennedy Center, singing "Natural Woman" in a performance honoring Carole King that brought President Obama to tears, news outlets reported.

Wolf Trap Refund Information: If you purchased tickets to this show, refunds will be automatically processed over the next three weeks, Wolf Trap said, with refunds directed to the original purchaser. If you purchased your tickets with a credit card, your card will be credited with your refund. If tickets were purchased by check, cash, or gift certificate, you will receive a refund check by mail.

Please contact Wolf Trap Ticket Services at 703.255.1868 to verify your address. Ticket-holders who did not purchase their tickets through wolftrap.org,tickets.com, 877.WOLFTRAP, or in-person at the Wolf Trap Box Office should contact their third- party point of purchase. Wolf Trap is unable to issue refunds for tickets purchased through third parties.
