Daytime Burglary Reported on Park Street in Vienna: Police

A look at the most recent incidents as reported by the Town of Vienna Police, in their latest report released Friday.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from April 8, 2016 – April 14, 2016. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody.

Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. Lost Property 16-002884: 400 Block Branch Road, SE Between April 1 at 6:00 p.m. and April 10 at 12:00 p.m. A resident reported that he lost his wedding ring.

Burglary 16-002722: 1100 Block Park Street, SE April 5 between 8:10 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. A resident reported that while she was out of the house an unknown person entered her home. It appeared the person searched through various areas of the home, taking jewelry and US Currency. This case is being investigated.

Suspicious Event 16-002812: Vienna Woods Swim Club 950 Desale Street, SW Between April 5 at 9:00 a.m. and April 8 at 1:18 p.m. An employee found clothing and other personal belongings on the Swim Club property near the creek. MPO Vazquez walked around the property with the employee but was unable to locate anyone.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 16-002788: Lawyers Road at Upham Place, NW April 8 12:04 a.m. PFC Tracy observed a driver commit a traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he determined that the driver may have been impaired. After the driver refused to submit to any sobriety tests, PFC Tracy arrested the 37 year old man from Children’s Center Road, SW in Leesburg, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, which he also refused. The man was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal and held on a $5000 secured bond. He was released to the custody of the deputies.

Police Service 16-002798: Vienna Carwash 159 Maple Avenue, West April 8 8:39 a.m. Officers were requested at the business while an employee served a notice of trespass on a former employee. The former employee then left the area without incidence.

Fraud 16-002910: 100 Block Elm Street, SW Between April 8 at 12:00 p.m. and April 11 at 3:46 p.m. A resident was notified by his credit card company that someone attempted to make an unauthorized purchase using his credit card. There were also attempts to change information on his account and to open a new account without his authorization.

Police Service 16-002811: Cameo Coins 444 Maple Avenue, East April 8 1:06 p.m. Pennsylvania State Police requested assistance in recovering property that had been stolen from a burglary in their jurisdiction and had been pawned at Cameo Coins. An employee with Cameo Coins readily assisted the property owner and Ofc. Sterling in identifying the stolen property and returning it to the owner.

Assist EMS 16-002813: 160 Maple Avenue, West April 8 1:22 p.m. Sgt. Sheeran responded to assist rescue with an elderly man who had collapsed in the parking lot. Fairfax County Rescue Personnel transported the man to an area hospital for treatment.

Petit Larceny 16-002823: Outback Steakhouse 315 Maple Avenue, East April 8 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. An employee reported a customer leaving without paying for his bill.

Grand Larceny 16-002974: 500 Block Brentwood Court, NW Between April 8 at 4:39 p.m. and April 11 at 6:30 a.m. A resident reported the theft of a package that was delivered to his home from Amazon.

Arrest – Narcotic Violation 16-002824: 215 Maple Avenue, West April 8 8:33 p.m. MPO Lyons observed a vehicle traveling with no headlights or taillights and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After further interaction he located a marijuana filled cigar. The driver, a 24 year old woman from Water Oak Drive in Fairfax, Virginia, was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana. She was released after signing the summons.

Animal Case 16-002928: 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE April 8 9:24 p.m. A resident surrendered her cat to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. Due to the cat’s poor condition Fairfax County Animal Control requested ACO Barker respond to the home to check the welfare of any other animals the resident may own. ACO Barker made contact with the resident who advised she had no other animals and that she had only taken this cat in six months ago as a favor to a friend. ACO Barker made notification of the incident to the authorities in Pittsylvania County, Virginia where the original owner of the cat lives. Their authorities will check the condition of any other animals at that residence.

Arrest – Narcotic Violation 16-002835: Maple Avenue and Pleasant Street, SW April 8 11:32 p.m. MPO Lyons observed a driver commit a traffic offense and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After further interaction he located a measurable amount of marijuana and paraphernalia. The driver, a 31 year old man from Ladue Lane in Fairfax, Virginia, was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.

Arrest – Petit Larceny 16-002864: 200 Block Cottage Street, SW April 9 6:15 p.m. A cab driver reported a fare who was unable to pay his bill. The fare, a 36 year old man from Cottage Street, SW in Vienna, was issued a summons for Petit Larceny. He was released after signing the summons.

Arrest – Noise Violation 16-002869: 1200 Block Kelley Street, SW April 9 11:07 p.m. Several residents reported loud music coming from a home. When officers arrived in the area they found the music was coming from a detached garage at the home. Ofc. Post spoke to the resident and advised him of the noise ordinance. The resident, a 34 year old man, was issued a summons for Noise Violation. He was released on his signature.

Grand Larceny 16-002873: The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE April 10 2:00 a.m. A customer reported her purse was stolen while she was at the Bey Lounge. This case is under investigation.

Open Door 16-002879: 400 Block Hine Street, SE April 10 11:30 a.m. A resident reported that the front door of his neighbor’s house was open. Officers searched the home and found that nothing appeared to be disturbed.

Fraud 16-002882: 900 Block Frederick Street, SW April 10 12:10 p.m. A resident reported that they were notified by the IRS that someone had used both she and her husband’s identification to file a fraudulent tax return.

Animal Case – Quarantine 16-002968: 200 Block Branch Road, SE April 10 4:30 p.m. ACO Barker received a report from the Health Department regarding a resident who was bitten while grooming his dog. The resident was advised of the 10 day quarantine process.

Trespassing 16-002891: 200 Block Locust Street, SE April 10 8:34 p.m. A resident reported two suspicious individuals in the basement trash room. MPO Lyons located the two individuals who were in possession of alcohol. One of them was a juvenile who was verbally counselled by the officer and released to his guardian. The second individual, a 21 year old man from Nutley Street, SW in Vienna, was issued a summons for Trespassing. He was released on his signature.

Suspicious Event 16-002935: 700 Block Meadow Lane, SW Between April 11 at 12:00 p.m. and April 12 at 1:30 p.m. A U.S. Postal Carrier reported that he observed a vehicle occupied by two males drive by him repeatedly over a two day period while he was on his delivery route. He believed he also saw gun between the passenger and the passenger window. The vehicle left the area before police were called. A Postal Inspector was also advised of the incident.

Suspicious Event 16-002929: 1000 Block Cottage Street, SW April 12 9:28 a.m. A resident received a suspicious call from someone reporting to be from the IRS, advising him that he owed back taxes and would be arrested if he did not pay them.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 16-002954: Maple Avenue and Lawyers Road, NW April 13 12:34 a.m. Ofc. Herrera observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. As a result he initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he determined that he may have been impaired. After failing a series of sobriety tests he arrested the 41 year old man from Flemming Drive in Chantilly, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and released to the custody of the deputies.

Lost Property 16-003034: Tyson’s Pharmacy 110 Pleasant Street, NW April 12 2:00 p.m. A resident advised she lost her prescription medication. She believes she may have set it on top of her vehicle as she left the pharmacy and forgot it.

Petit Larceny 16-002938: Giant Food 359 Maple Avenue, East April 12 6:36 p.m. An employee reported a customer stole a pack of cigarettes after his credit card was declined to purchase them. As the man left the store the employee was able to get a photo of the vehicle he left in, along with the driver of the vehicle. This case is being investigated.

Noise Violation 16-002956: The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE April 13 1:17 a.m. Officers responded to the report of loud music coming from the Bey Lounge. When they arrived they found no violation and the employees were closing the business for the night.

Animal Case – Quarantine 16-002969: 1100 Block Drake Street, SW April 13 8:00 a.m. A resident reported that her two dogs had suffered some wounds after they had gotten into a fight with a raccoon under her backyard shed. ACO Barker checked for the raccoon, but was unable to locate it. The dogs, both current with their rabies vaccinations, were checked by their veterinarian and each given a booster. The resident was advised of the 45 day quarantine process for the dogs. Since the resident was exposed to her dog’s wounds ACO Barker also notified the Fairfax County Health Department. ACO Barker will follow up on this case.

Police Service 16-002978: Capital One Bank 246 Maple Avenue, East April 13 2:14 p.m. An employee was concerned for one of their elderly customers who was in the bank and appeared to be confused. Ofc. Sterling spoke to the man who showed no signs of physical distress. He drove the man to his home and spoke to both him and his wife, providing them with contact information for Adult Protective Services for additional assistance.

Domestic Dispute 16-002984: Park Terrace Court, SE April 13 3:57 p.m. A resident had an argument with her grandson. The juvenile became upset, damaged his bedroom wall and left the home.

Lost Property 16-003041: 7-11 427 Maple Avenue, East April 13 8:30 p.m. A citizen reported that he lost his backpack which contained his identification.

Arrest – Drunk In Public 16-002989: Clarity 442 Maple Avenue, East April 13 8:48 p.m. An employee reported a parking lot accident. When officers arrived they found one of the individuals appeared to be intoxicated. MPO Lyons arrested the 50 year old woman from Ainstree Court, NE in Vienna for being Drunk in Public. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was to be held until sober.

Suspicious Event 16-002998 Ayr Hill Avenue and Dominion Road, NE April 13 11:05 p.m. A resident reported driving eastbound on Ayr Hill Avenue NE approaching the W&OD Bike Trail when he heard a loud bang. A short time later he noticed his passenger side window completely shattered out. The resident did not see anyone in the area or notice anything suspicious at the time he heard the loud noise. Officers searched the area, but did not find anything unusual.

Grand Larceny 16-003033: Louise Archer Elementary School 324 Nutley Street, NW April 14 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. A resident advised his son’s bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at school, where he had left it unlocked

Suspicious Event 16-003021: Wear Hair For You 103 Park Street, SE 16-003021 April 14 12:35 p.m. An employee reported that the business has been receiving some suspicious emails, telephone calls and text messages over the last few days.

Vandalism 16-003023: 303 Maple Avenue, West April 14 1:15 p.m. A citizen advised she had just parked her vehicle in the parking lot when another woman parked her vehicle in the space to the right of her. The other woman opened her door forcefully, striking the citizen’s vehicle and causing damage to the right front door and mirror. The citizen asked the woman to exchange information with her however she refused and walked away.

Found Property 16-003035: Whole Foods 143 Maple Avenue, East April 14 5:12 p.m. A citizen came to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a cell phone and wallet that she had found on Park Street near Whole Foods.
