Federal Shutdown Prompts Fairfax Co. Supervisors To Extended Car Tax Due Date
There is a new car tax due date after the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors took action during a special meeting.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County residents will have longer to pay their personal property tax on their vehicles.
On Tuesday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved an extension of the vehicle personal property tax payment due date during a special meeting. The extension is due to the federal government shutdown.
The action comes one day after the original car tax due date. The new due date is Nov. 5. Residents can pay the car tax online, in designated drop boxes, by phone or in person at the Fairfax County Government Center.

Fairfax County has an estimated 80,000 federal workers and thousands more contractors.
Some federal employees are furloughed, while others are working without pay until the shutdown ends. Federal contractors are not guaranteed back pay, and their status depends on how long their contract has received funding.
