County Holds Hearing For Proposed Smoking Ban At Bus Stops

If passed, smokers could be fined up to $25

Fairfax County officials seek public input at a hearing today for a proposed smoking ban in its bus shelters.

Governing bodies must provide or consider no-smoking areas in any building or structure they own or lease, under the Virginia Indoor Clean Air Act.

If officials approve the ban, residents who were found smoking in the shelters could be fined up to $25. In addition, the county would spend $482 to put a no-smoking sign in each of its 214 bus shelters.
