On Thursday, June 5, at the Unity of Fairfax Church in Oakton, VA, Holy Comforter was named a Sustainability Champion of 2025 by the Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions (FACS). FACS is made up 250 faith communities in Virginia who are working to develop local solutions to climate change. Holy Comforter received the Sustainability Champion award for our solar project, and our progress toward net zero greenhouse gas emissions.

In accepting the award, Holy Comforter’s rector, Fr. Jon Stand, explained how the generosity of Victor and Joan Brown and the Brown family provided much of the funding for the solar project, described the many challenges that had to be overcome to complete the project, and thanked the individuals who helped with the project, including Dan Govan of Govan Builders, Bob Pegnato of Structural Solar, Ipsun Solar, and the Holy Comforter parishioners, including those who made up Holy Comforter’s solar team. He explained that Holy Comforter is grateful to FACS for recognizing our efforts and explained that we are now looking forward to our next sustainability project. Congratulations to us all for an important project well done!
