Fairfax County Snow Day Changes For 2023-24 School Year Announced
Fairfax County Public Schools has announced changes in how to respond if schools are closed by weather conditions this year.
VIENNA, VA — In a change from last year, Fairfax County Public Schools will not have virtual learning days if schools are closed by weather conditions this year.
A message from Fairfax Superintendent Michelle Reid posted on the Fairfax County Public Schools website said there won’t be any virtual learning days if schools are closed due to inclement weather in the 2023-24 school year. Instead, students will have snow days and catch up in person later in the year.
For the past two school years, the first five inclement weather days were traditional snow days, but any snow days beyond that were unscheduled virtual learning days.

"With 11 snow days built into our existing calendar, eliminating virtual learning days will enable us to maximize our in-person learning and provide for equitable access to instruction and student services for each and every one of our students," Reid wrote.
She encouraged parents, teachers and students to share ideas students can use during the winter break and during snow days should they be needed. Send ideas to WinterDiscovery@fcps.edu so the district can collect ideas and share them on the FCPS website.
