Paving operations also close lane at Gallows and Old Courthouse Road, Route 7

All lanes of I-495 south, the Outer Loop, at Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) will be closed for steel beam placement Friday night, Aug. 12, and Saturday night, Aug. 13, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Vehicles will be detoured to Exit 45B, Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) east toward I-66 to Exit 19B, Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) south, stay right and follow detour signage back to I-495 south. Police will be onsite directing traffic.

Expect delays. The detour may add 15-20 minutes onto a trip during the peak overnight hour between 11 p.m. and midnight.

Note: Dulles Toll Road exit ramp to I-495 south will also close overnight and vehicles will be directed to continue east on Dulles Toll Road and follow the above detour.

The steel beam placement is part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project Jones Branch Drive Connection. Should inclement weather cancel this work, it will be rescheduled for Aug. 15-16.

Starting on Friday, Aug. 12, at 10:30 p.m. through 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, crews will close the right lane on Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east  just before the Gallows Road intersection for paving according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

During the same time, a paving operation will also close the left lane on Gallows Road (Route 650) north just before the Old Courthouse Road intersection.

As part of the Virginia Megaprojects program, these paving improvements include extending the right turn lane along Leesburg Pike east onto Gallows Road and extend the left turn lane from Gallows Road north onto Old Courthouse Road. These improvements are necessary to improve traffic flow around these intersections and allow motorists earlier access to the turn lanes.
