Madison Student Wins National Skill Demonstration Competition

Meredith Huffman, a senior at Madison High School, placed first in the nation in the Nutrition Challenge Skill Demonstration Event.

VIENNA, VA - The James Madison High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter and nearly two thousand youth members and adult advisers recently gathered in Orlando, FL for the annual National Cluster Meeting. The meeting provided FCCLA members with opportunities to compete in skill demonstrations ranging from culinary knife skills to technology used in teaching, attend leadership and program training, participate in Leadership Academy, hear two national speakers, explore colleges and careers, and impact a city with the Unlimited Possibilities of FCCLA.

Meredith Huffman, a senior at Madison High School, placed first in the nation in the Nutrition Challenge Skill Demonstration Event during the meeting. The Nutrition Challenge included a knowledge and skill test which allows participants to complete challenges related to Family and Consumer Sciences subject matter, including nutrition, wellness, and health concepts. Skill Demonstration Events provide opportunities for members to demonstrate college- and career-ready skills in Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations.

The Cluster Meeting “Unlimited Possibilities” theme drove home the wide range of opportunities available to youth through FCCLA. These youth leaders also networked through meeting with other leaders and developed their leadership skills. In addition, chapter members learned more about future career and college options as well as found ways that they can empower others.
