Next Metro Repair Work Starts Thursday, to Impact Orange Line
Expect trains to and from Vienna to be extremely crowded.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Get ready, Orange Line commuters: SafeTrack Surge #9 starts next week, impacting the Vienna-Falls Church area Metro train service.
Orange Line trains will continuously single track weekdays between Vienna and West Falls Church from Thursday, Sept. 15 through Oct. 26.
The following are tips for commuters from WMATA:

- Shuttle trains will operate between Vienna and West Falls Church every 24 minutes (regularly every 6 minutes during rush hour). Transfer at West Falls Church to continue trip.
- Normal service levels at other Orange Line stations.
- After 10 p.m., trains will operate between Vienna and New Carrollton every 20 minutes.
- Expect trains to/from Vienna to be extremely crowded.
- Limited free weekday rush hour express Metrobus shuttle service will operate between Vienna and West Falls Church every 5-10 minutes from 5-9 a.m. and 3 to 8 p.m. (Shuttles will not stop at Dunn Loring.)
- Customers who normally use Vienna or Dunn Loring should consider alternate boarding locations or use other travel options.
On the weekends of Sept. 24-25 and Oct. 1-2:
- Free shuttle buses replace trains between Vienna and East Falls Church stations 7 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday.
- Stations closed: Vienna, Dunn Loring and West Falls Church.
On the weekends of Oct. 8-9 and Oct. 15-16:

- Free shuttle buses replace trains between Vienna and West Falls Church stations 7 a.m., Saturday through closing Sunday.
- Stations Closed: Vienna and Dunn Loring.
Orange Line trains may be very crowded, especially during rush hour due to severe service reduction, Metro officials warn. Expect significantly longer wait times at the following stations:
- Vienna
- Dunn Loring
- West Falls Church*
- East Falls Church*
*Service impacts for weekend line segment shutdowns only.
Weekend train frequencies may change to coordinate with other planned track work on the Metrorail system. Weekend service information is posted in the Alerts & Advisories section

- If you're driving on I-66 from west of Vienna, consider taking PRTC Omni Ride from Manassas or Gainesville to reach the Pentagon or Downtown DC; or consider taking the Manassas Metro Direct to the Tysons Metro Station.

- For customers driving on I-66 from west of Vienna, consider taking the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Manassas Line (via Burke Centre) to Crystal City, L’Enfant Plaza or Union Station
Biking
- Capital Bikeshare - A bike transit service of the departments of transportation in the District of Columbia, Arlington County, the City of Alexandria and Montgomery County. As an alternative to regular membership options (starting at $8/day), Capital Bikeshare is offering a flat $2 fare for single trips under 30 minutes.
- Washington Area Bicyclist Association - and Bike Arlington are providing maps and signs for bike routes as an alternative to Metrorail in Virginia. Signs specific to this Surge will be posted on bike trails and around Metrorail stations.
- Bike Arlington - Information to make it easy for cyclists in Arlington to get where they need to go, including more than one hundred miles of multi-use trails, on-street bike lanes, and designated bike routes.
- Washington & Old Dominion Trail - scenic bike route from Herndon, Vienna, Dunn Loring, Falls Church.
Parking
Orange Line customers using the Vienna and Dunn Loring Metro Park & Ride facilities should consider other Park & Ride facilities at West Falls Church or Silver Line stations. During weekend line segement shutdowns also consider Park & Ride facilities at East Falls Church.
Carpools, Vanpools
- Commuter Connections - Provides commute options to get to work and get you home in an unexpected emergency. Among many services, it offers ridematching for carpools and vanpools and administers the Guaranteed Ride Home program.
