Now Closed: United Bank in Vienna

United Bank is no longer operating on Maple Avenue.

The branch of the bank, which has 16 other locations in Northern Virginia, apparently closed its doors Jan. 31. 

Customers emailed Vienna Patch this week showing a dark office with "we're closed" signs hanging from the inside of the doors.

The bank made its mark on Maple Avenue with a large digital thermometer sign, which buffered the large building in which it was located from the road.

A representative from the bank could not be reached at press time.

In 2011, the bank was a victim of three armed robberies in as many months.

• On June 16 2011, a suspect approached an employee who was unlocking the bank before 8 a.m. that day. Inside the bank, the suspect revealed a weapon and demanded money. The suspect took off on foot. Nobody was injured in the robbery, Police said.
• When the bank was robbed on April 16, 2011, a lone male suspect entered the bank, revealed a handgun and demanded money from a teller before leaving the building on foot. That suspect was described as a black male, around 6 feet and 2 inches tall and around 180 pounds, wearing a black mask with eye slits, dark jeans and a dark wool cap.
• On March 11, 2011, the bank was robbed in the same way. The suspect in that case was described as  "as a black male in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a black ski mask, black jacket, light-colored pants, black shoes and carrying a black bag."

A suspect was not apprehended in those cases.

The bank's Tysons branch, at 2071 Chain Bridge Road, Vienna, remains open
