No residents home at time of morning fire; damage estimated at $50,000

Monday, 11:47 a.m.: Sunday's fire at a home in the 400 block of Center Street North was accidental, investigators say, caused by a lamp in the basement that was too close to combustibles.

Two adults and one juvenile have been displaced because of the fire; red cross assistance was not necessary, Fairfax County fire officials said.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage, according to the fire department.

At least seven engines, two ambulances and police officers arrived on scene and found a fire on the back deck area, along with some flames in the basement. The fire was under control in about five minutes, Roatch said.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

Daniel Sieff said he was running around the neighborhood when he saw smoke coming from the back of the house. He ran around the back of the house and saw flames. He flagged somebody down to call 911 and started banging on the doors. "It looked like nobody was home," he said.

"The smoke detectors were going off like crazy," he said.
