Officials Investigating Fire on Malcolm Road

No injuries in Monday blaze; cause of fire unknown.

Update: Officials have blocked off Malcolm Road as the investigation continues.

Cars are being redirected at Orchard Street NW. Traffic coming from the direction of Nutley and West Streets also cannot get through at this time.

Cars coming from West Street can turn right onto Malcolm Road heading toward Lawyers Road, and vehicles traveling from Lawyers Road down Malcolm Road can continue onto West Street.

Original: Fairfax County fire officials are investigating a fire that began Monday evening in the basement of a two-story home on Malcolm Road NW.

The fire was reported around 5:38 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of Malcolm Road NW, according to a Fairfax County dispatcher.

The fire was knocked down around 6 p.m.

Officials believe the fire started in the basement. Firefighters on scene discovered smoke coming from the basement, the dispatcher said.

The dispatcher said he believed the occupants of the home were inside when the fire began, but they exited the building safely.

The cause of the fire and extent of the damage is unknown at this time.
