Police Log: Grand Larceny At Chipotle, Passenger Stiffs Taxi

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police are investigating a grand larceny at Chipotle Restaurant.

The property manager at the restaurant, in the 200 block of Maple Avenue East, reported someone stole the hydraulic system from an exterior trash compactor between 7 a.m. Nov. 30 and 7 a.m. Dec. 1.

The approximate cost to replace the system is $1,500.00.

Police are looking for a man that took off without paying his taxi fare.

A taxi driver told police picked up a customer at the Vienna Metro Station between 3:40 and 3:46 a.m. Dec. 3 and brought them to Cedar Lane and Park Street SE.

The man left the cab, telling the driver he needed to go retrieve some money, put never returned to pay the fare. The man is described as a black male, average height and build, with a Jamaican accent.

Another taxi driver described , saying a passenger exited his vehicle around 3:15 a.m. Nov. 24 on Walker Street SW without paying the proper fare. The driver said the passenger told him he was going inside his home to retrieve more money, but the passenger never returned to pay it. Officers weren't able to locate the passenger because the driver could not identify which house he entered.

Other highlights from the Vienna Police Department, Nov. 28 to Dec. 6:

  • A resident on Casmar Street reported receiving a phone call from her credit card company to approve a purchase of an item at Sears between 12:01 a.m. Nov. 7 and 11:59 p.m. Nov. 28. The woman declined the purchase, and went on to look up her credit card activity online. She found there were other fraudulent purchases on the account. Police are investigating the case.
  • A woman reported she parked her vehicle outside an apartment complex on Patrick Street SE around 4:29 a.m. Nov. 24, leaving her purse inside. She then attended a party at one of the complex's apartments. When she returned she saw her purse had been dumped out on the seat and a bottle of perfume was missing. On the same date, an officer arrested a man in the area and discovered a bottle of perfume on him. The woman decided not to press charges.
  • A bicyclist was riding on the sidewalk at 5:45 p.m. Nov. 28 along the 100 Block of Maple Avenue near Center Street, NW. A motor vehicle passed the
    bicyclist then turned right into a driveway apron and struck the bicyclist. The rider suffered no serious injuries.
  •  A woman reported her estranged husband stole a GPS unit and wedding ring from her car between 1 and 2 a.m. Dec. 2 on Knoll Street NW. The woman had become drunk at a local bar and asked her estranged husband to drive her home. He told her he took the items as retribution for the television set she took when she left her previous home. Police are investigating the case.
  • Police assisted Fairfax County EMS at 10:14 p.m. Dec. 2 for a motorist in medical distress at Tapawingo Road and Meadow Lane SW. The driver was taken to a local hospital.
  • Police observed a trash truck emptying a dumpster at Marshall Road Elementary School in the early morning hours of Dec. 3. They followed it to Cunningham Park Elementary School where around 6:28 a.m. they observed it emptying another dumpster. Police issued Mame Papa Yoro Diaz, 47, of Manassas, a summons for violating the Town of Vienna noise ordinance. He was released after signing the summons.
  • A man reported between 7 and 9:30 a.m. Dec. 3 someone damaged the mailbox and its pedestal for his home on Park Street NE.
  • Police stopped a moped around 10:41 p.m. Dec.3 in the 200 block of Dominion Road NE after it ran through a stop sign. When police interacted with the juvenile driver and passenger, the passenger fled. Police issued the driver a summons for reckless driving and another for operating a moped while underage. He was released to his mother when she responded to the scene. Police also identified the fleeing passenger. They will obtain petitions charging the 15-year-old boy with escape without force and providing false identity to a law enforcement officer.
  • A citizen found a wallet around 8:50 a.m. Dec. 4 at Cedar Lane Shopping Center, 262 Cedar Lane SE. Police are attempting to locate the owner.
  • During a traffic stop at 1:11 a.m. Dec. 5 at Cottage Street and Kingsley Road SW, police detected the presence of alcohol. Police discovered the driver had consumed alcohol while underage. They issued Anna Margolis, 20, of Vienna, a summons for the violation. A friend responded to drive her home.
  • A citizen reported someone was unloading materials and making loud noises around 4:44 a.m. Dec. 5 on Westbriar Drive NE. Police found the person was a contractor unloading sod at the _Club. The contractor stopped unloading after speaking with police.
  • A man reported at 9:01 p.m. Dec. 6 he believes he lost his wallet at , 421 Maple Avenue E.
  • A woman reported while shopping at , 311 Maple Ave E., between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Dec. 7, she noticed that her purse was missing. A few minutes later the complainant located her purse in another area of the store. It had been rummaged through but it did not appear as though anything was taken.
  • Police noticed a trash truck collecting a dumpster at 6:01 a.m. Dec. 8 in the 100 block of East Street SE, an hour earlier than the 7 a.m. start time allowed in the town's noise ordinance. Kenneth Thomas, 41, of Manassas, was issued a summons for the violation and released after signing it.

ARRESTS

At 5:54 p.m. Dec. 2, police responded to the 200 block of Lawyers Road NW for a single vehicle crash. Police found that the car was speeding and couldn't negotiate the turn on Lawyers Road near Sharon Lane, NW. The vehicle ran off of the roadway to the right and struck a large rock. It then continued on and struck a tree, then spun around and contacted a second tree. The driver was uninjured. Police noticed the driver may be impaired. After failing to complete several field sobriety tests, Curtis Hanson, 56, of Brightwood, Virginia, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to the Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis. After the analysis Hanson was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

During a traffic stop at 1:52 a.m. Dec. 3 in the 300 block of Maple Avenue E, police suspected the driver may have been impaired, and also noticed fresh damage to the outside of the car. After failing to complete several field sobriety tests, Ronald Gonzalez Vazquez, 20, of Fairfax, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis and then to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. It's unclear where the damage to the car occurred; area law enforcement agencies were notified of the observation.
