Police Log: Officers Talk Man Out Of Harming Himself With Handgun; Suspicious Man Spotted Again Outside Dance Studio

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A man was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment last month after threatening to harm himself with a handgun at a Vienna home.

A resident reported around 6 p.m. Oct. 31 her adult son was inside her Melody Lane home and was threatening to harm himself using a handgun. The scene and surrounding area was secured by officers. The Fairfax County Police Department’s K-9 unit along with other additional resources were summoned and responded to assist with the situation.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. the son safely exited the home and was taken for treatment.

A citizen reported around 4:34 p.m. Nov. 5 a suspicious man was pacing back in forth in front of a window at the Cuppett Performing Arts Center while a dance class was taking place.

The complainant believes this is the same individual observed in the area on prior occasions. The subject is described as a tan male, possibly Asian, with short hair, stocky build, in his 30’s, wearing glasses, and a blue hooded sweatshirt. Responding officers were unable to locate the subject.

Other Highlights From The Vienna Police Department, Oct. 30 through Nov. 10

  • A woman reported her wallet was stolen from her purse between 1:45 and 7 p.m. Oct. 27 while she left it unattended inside the Wellness Center, 311 Maple Avenue West. When she contacted her credit card companies she learned the cards had already been used fraudulently in Virginia and Washington, D.C. Police are still investigating the case. 
  • A man reported after his mother and her boyfriend arrived home around 1:47 p.m. Oct. 29, the boyfriend began yelling at him. The boyfriend attempted to engage the complainant in a physical altercation, he said, but he summoned police instead. Police responded and the legal options available to the men were discussed.
  • A man reported between 4 p.m. Oct. 29 and 7 a.m. Oct. 30 someone had entered his truck on Cedar Lane SE and stolen tools. Police are investigating the case.
  • A man reported between 7 p.m Oct. 29 and 10:04 a.m. Oct. 30 someone entered his truck on Ross Drive SW and stole his work tools. Police are investigating the case.
  • A citizen reported around 10:25 a.m. Oct. 30 a lockbox on the outside of a home on Knoll Street NW had been broken apart and the front screen door was ajar. Officers responded and found no additional signs of entry. The home’s owner and the responsible real estate company could not be reached.
  • Around 11:49 a.m. Oct. 31, a customer requested a refund for some work that had been prepaid for at Nicholas Stove and Chimney, 239 Mill Street, NE, but  had never been completed. The business refunded the money and banned the customer from the property. The customer then left without incident.
  • While dining at a restaurant at 1:05 a.m. Nov. 2 in the 300 Block of Maple Avenue W, a man reported he was confronted by another man, who pointed his finger at the complainant and told him to respect women. He then left.
  • An employee at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street, SE, reported finding a discarded bicycle around 7:46 a.m. Nov. 2. Police collected the bike and placed it into storage pending retrieval by its owner.
  • An employee of Magruder’s reported at 11:56 a.m. Nov. 2, he saw a subject concealing merchandise. After allowing her to check out and pay for several other items, employees confronted her outside the store.
    Police responded and issued a summons to Lida Vail, 28, of McLean,  charging her with the theft. She was released after signing the summons and banned from the store by management.
  • A citizen reported around 5:27 a.m. Nov. 3 he was doing some construction work for a client, but the two had a falling out and he would now like to retrieve his tools. The client has made this difficult, he said. Police responded to the client’s home and retrieved the tools.
  • A resident of Battle Street SW reported he noticed a socket set missing from his home. The man wasn't sure if he had misplaced the set, or, if it was taken sometime between Sept. 15 and Oct. 5.
  • A man reported his bike was stolen sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 3 from the Vienna Town Green, 144 Maple Avenue E. The bicycle was unlocked, but in a bicycle rack. Police are investigating the case.
  • A woman reported she went into Palm Beach Tan, 105 Center Street N,
    around 5:15 p.m. and set her sunglasses down. As she went to leave around 6:21 p.m. she noticed they were gone.
  • A woman reported she and a friend went to Fast Eddie’s Bar in Fairfax City around 10 p.m. Nov. 3 to play pool. She said the next thing she remembered is waking up in her bathtub at her home. She suspected she and her friend were drugged with a substance. Detectives investigated the case thoroughly and determined that no criminal act had occurred.
  • Police noticed a suspicious vehicle around 1:14 a.m. Nov. 4 near Center Street and John Marshall Road NW. Further investigation revealed marijuana was inside the car. Police issued one of the passengers, Niema Touhidi, 20, of McLean, a summons for posession of marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.
  • A citizen reported around 11:20 p.m. Nov. 4 they noticed a dog had been left inside a parked vehicle outside Amphora Restaurant, 377 Maple Avenue, W.  Police responded. The outside temperature was 40 degrees and the dog did not appear to be in distress. Police located the dog’s owner and counseled her on the matter.
  • A tenant of a building on Center Street reported around 11:15 a.m. Nov. 5 his landlord would not allow him to use a particular bathroom inside the home. The tenant’s usual toilet was unavailable and the landlord wouldn’t allow him to use the one in his room. There was also a third toilet in the basement but the tenant refused to use thatone as it is necessary to hold the handle down for it to properly flush. During the toilet dispute one party stated that the other had touched him. The warrant obtainment process was explained to both parties.
  • During a traffic stop at 2:25 a.m. Nov. 7 in the 800 Block Maple Avenue E, an officer discovered the driver did not have a driver's license. As the driver stepped out of the car, the officer detected signs of possible impairment. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests the driver was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. A breath analysis indicated the driver did have alcohol in his system but was not at or above the legal limit. A warrant was issued and served on Eric Cruz, 25, of Vienna, charging him with driving without an operator’s license. Cruz was subsequently released.
  • Police found a trash truck at 4:49 a.m. Nov. 7 in the 400 block of Maple Avenue E that was violating the Town of Vienna noise ordinance by collecting trash from dumpsters in the early morning hours. Rene Eladio Molina Pruna, 49, of Vienna was issued a summons for the violation and released after signing it.
  • A woman reported around noon Nov. 8,  she took several items from inside her home on DeSale Street SW and left them on her front lawn. She went to Washington, D.C. for several hours and whan she returned, she discovered some of the items were missing, including a wicker love seat, electric saw, and several extension cords. This case is still being investigated.
  • A citizen reported around noon Nov. 9 another resident was housing chickens on his property on Tapawingo Road, which they believed was a violation of law. The town's animal control officer found the chickens were being well cared for and that there was no violation of any animal laws. The complainant was told to contact the Town of Vienna Zoning Department to inquire about the unsightly pen.
  • A citizen reported he is getting a divorce from his wife, but the wife's father continues to harass the man because he is asking for spousal support from his wife. Between 5:30 p.m. Nov. 9 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 10, the husband found a nail in his tire, and that someone had loosend his oil drain plug, allowing oil to leak out of the engine. The legal options available were discussed with the complainant.
  • A citizen reported a resident was housing chickens on his property on Kingsley Road SW. Police responded and found the animals were actually ducks and they live with a rabbit in a pen. There was no violation of law.
  • A woman reported at 10:15 p.m. Nov. 10 her former boyfriend calls her and refuses to stop. Police contacted the boyfriend and persuaded him to stop calling.

ARRESTS

A man called Vienna Police around 9:45 p.m. Sept. 11 to report he'd been robbed. When police responded, they discovered they robbery was actually a drug rip off during a transaction and the man knew the identity of the individual he believed had robbed him. After a discussion outside the subject's Vienna home, police arrested Tyreece Walker, 22, of Vienna for drunk in public. Police also found marijuana inside the subject's room. Walker was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and formally charged with both offenses.

During a traffic stop at 8:17 p.m. Oct. 30 at Follin Lane and Maple Avenue SE, an officer noticed the driver was impaired. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests,  Katherine Newland, 55, of Vienna, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was taken to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis and then to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

While conducting a traffic stop around 2:58 a.m. Nov. 5 in the 500 block of Maple Avenue West, police noticed the driver might be impaired. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, Kelsey Whited, 22, of Reston, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Whited was taken to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis, and then to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Police saw a trash truck begin collecting from a dumpster around 6:48 a.m. Nov. 10 on Maple Ave E. in violation of the Town of Vienna noise ordinance.The trash company and this particular driver had been advised regarding the ordinance on a previous occasion. Edgardo Paz Villegas, 42, of Sterling was issued a summons for the violation and released after signing it.
