Political Signs Stolen, Pedestrian Hit: Vienna Police Report

The latest Vienna police report noted responses to a pedestrian crash and stolen political signs and a catalytic converter.

VIENNA, VA — Cases of stolen political signs, a catalytic converter swiped from a car and a pedestrian crash were noted in the latest crime report from Vienna Police.

Police believe two political signs were taken from a home in the 100 block of Ayr Hill Avenue NW between 9 a.m. on Oct. 16 and 12 p.m. on Oct. 19. The signs were later returned. Police did not say what political signs had been taken.

The resident also noted two signs had been struck by an apparent hunting bow. Similarly, a resident in the 100 block of Wilmar Place NW reported a hunting bow struck her vehicle in front of her house between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Oct. 18. The vehicle's tire was damaged.

Vehicle Tampering 24-011271
100 Block Fardale Street, SE
Between October 10 at 9:30 p.m. and October 11 at 8:30 a.m.
A resident reported someone stole the catalytic converter from his vehicle while it was parked in front of his residence.

Arrest – Petit Larceny 24-011602
Chipotle, 213 Maple Avenue, East
October 19 5:20 p.m.
Officers responded to the report of a bicycle stolen from Chipotle. They located a man with the bike in the area. Upon their interaction with the man, they found he also possessed bags of detergent. It was determined that the detergent had been stolen from Giant Food at 359 Maple Avenue, East. The bike owner did not wish to pursue charges. However, an employee at Giant agreed to prosecute for the theft. Ofc. Ludwick issued a summons charging Petit Larceny to the 26-year-old man from Glengyle Drive in Vienna and released him on his signature.

Crash 24-011646
Maple Avenue and Lawyers Road, NW
October 21, 7:23
Vehicle-1 was turning left from eastbound Maple Avenue onto Lawyers Road. Vehicle-2 was westbound on Maple Avenue when the two vehicles collided. Both drivers believed they had a green traffic light. Driver-1 was transported to an area hospital by rescue personnel with a non-life-threatening injury.

Crash 24-011689
400 Block Beulah Road, NE
October 22 2:45 p.m. Vehicle-1 was northbound on Beulah Road traveling at a high rate of speed when they encountered traffic and swerved to avoid a collision. Vehicle-1 struck a pedestrian crossing sign and two telephone polls. Driver-1 was transported to an area medical facility by rescue personnel with non-life-threatening injuries. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Cottage Street and Plum Street, SW
October 24 9:28 a.m.
Vehicle-1 was southbound on Cottage Street, turning left onto Plum Street. Pedestrian-1 was riding a scooter northbound on the sidewalk of Cottage Street, entering the crosswalk at Plum Street when Vehicle-1 struck them. Pedestrian-1 was transported by rescue personnel to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Burglary 24-009222
200 Block Glen Avenue, SW
August 13 12:15 p.m.
A resident was in the upper level of his residence when he heard a noise coming from the downstairs living room. When he checked on the noise, he found an unknown man in his home. He ushered the man out the front door and followed him a short distance before calling the police. Officers searched the area but did not locate the man.

On October 15, after an extensive investigation, Detective Hylinski obtained a warrant for the suspect in this case. On October 24, after being previously arrested in Maryland, the 68-year-old man from Westerdale Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland was extradited to Virginia and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where the warrant charging Burglary was served on him.
