Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued Friday

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Fairfax County and Northern Virginia until 9 p.m. this evening. 

The National Weather Service forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. today. Thunderstorms have the potential to produce damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rainfalls this afternoon and evening, NWS said.

Rainfall amount are expected to be within a tenth and a quarter of an inch; higher amounts are possible in areas affected by thunderstorms.
