VIENNA, VA — A Vienna man was convicted in federal court last week in a case of sex trafficking involving a minor girl who got pregnant.

A federal jury convicted Michael Jamie Inofuentes, 45, a U.S. citizen with residences in Virginia and Colombia, with sex trafficking of a child and engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place. The conviction comes after federal agents flagged him for an inspection upon return from Colombia.

According to prosecutors, Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations agents did a search of Inofuentes on Nov. 1, 2024 at Miami International Airport on a return flight from Colombia. He had been flagged due to suspicious payments made to a person suspected of child sex trafficking in Colombia. A search of his cellphones found messages between Inofuentes and a 15-year-old Colombian girl indicating commercial sex. The teen girl told Inofuentes she was a minor, and they chatted about meeting at a Colombian hotel for sex and negotiated prices.

Months later, the girl informed Inofuentes she was pregnant, and the messages showed they had discussions about Inofuentes potentially being the father.

Prosecutors say Inofuentes initially denied having sex with the girl but later admitted to sexual contact. Inofuentes said he has children in Columbia from a mother he impregnated when she was a minor.

Agents released Inofuentes on Nov. 1, 2024, but he attempted to board a flight to Colombia from Dulles International Airport three days later. He was stopped on the jet bridge and taken to secondary inspection, where he admitted to offering a victim sex for money at a hotel.

Inofuentes faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2026.
