VIENNA, VA — Road work will affect some of Vienna's busier intersections during overnight hours starting Tuesday.

The Town of Vienna said work is happening on the "long-awaited" signal upgrades at the Maple Avenue and Nutley Street intersection and surrounding ones. Starting on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and periodically through Nov. 15, crews will replace signal heads at four intersections. One lane in both directions will be closed during the work. Work hours are 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize traffic impacts.

Affected intersections include Nutley Street at Courthouse Road SW, Maple Avenue at Lawyers Road, and Maple Avenue at Nutley Street SW. The Maple Avenue at Nutley Street is a key route connecting Vienna's main street and the Interstate 66 exit.

According to the town's project web page, the signal upgrade project seeks to address congestion and improve traffic flow. With the new system being installed, the town will be able to monitor real-time traffic conditions and make adjustments as needed from a remote location, make adjustments during morning and afternoon peak times, and help improve chances for vehicle arrival on green lights.
