Six Questions for Pure Pasty Co.'s Mike 'The Pasty' Burgess
The owner of Vienna's Pure Pasty Co. talks pasties and a career change.

Have you ever had a pasty?
You can try savory pasties (pronounced "past-ees") in Vienna at Pure Pasty Co. Patch asked owner Mike Burgess six questions about his bakery, which offers pasties, soups, and salads.
1. How long has Pure Pasty been in business?
3 years almost. Started Oct. 1, 2010.
2. Why pasties?
I've always loved pasties and all types of pies. So I just adore the product, that means I can be totally and utterly passionate about what we do, and then make the best possible product.Plus nobody else is doing it anywhere near here. It was a big risk, but just knew people around here would like this.
3. What made you decide to open a business selling pasties in Vienna?
Vienna, is a cool town. It's about the size of the town I was born and grew up back home in England. But the best thing is the people, they are warm hearted, supportive of small business, and open minded about food. Some places are so blinkered they cannot get beyond the offerings at IHOP, and still consider McDonalds a restaurant.
4. What are some of the most popular pasties?
The traditional beef variety. All natural, grass fed beef, no antibiotics or steroids. Potatoes, Carrot and back pepper. Simple food takes some beating.
5. What is your favorite pasty?
That's unfair :-) It's like trying to ask which is my favourite child. (It's actually a pie, I cannot resist our authentic Steak and Kidney pie - so rich and deep in flavour - reminds me of home).
6. What do you enjoy most about owning a business in Vienna?
Simplest and easiest question ever. My customers. I never imagined how much I would enjoy the engagement I have with the people who walk through my door each day. It is so refreshing and energizing. I come from the land of IT management where it was all about fighting for your team members performance ratings, and explaining why IT haven't met the customers expectations. This on the other hand is absolute joy. I seeing smiling happy faces everyday, usually as they are ordering more pasties to take home after they have tasted the ones in the shop.
