Teen Driver Charged In Oakton Crash Killing Vienna Resident

A 17-year-old driver was charged in a crash that killed a passenger in another vehicle in Oakton, according to Fairfax County Police.

OAKTON, VA — A teen driver has been charged in the Nov. 9 crash that killed a Vienna woman in Oakton, Fairfax County Police say.

The charges relate to a two-vehicle crash at Hunter Mill Road and Lynnhaven Place in Oakton on Nov. 9. According to police, the 17-year-old driver of the Toyota Camry was heading north on Hunter Mill Road and traveling at a high speed when he struck an Acura coupe. The Acura was attempting a left turn into the Oakton Shopping Center when the crash occurred.

The Acura driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead. The Toyota driver and passenger were not injured.

On Thursday, the teen driver turned himself in and was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving. He was held at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center.

The victim was identified as Brenda Cratty, 77, of Vienna. An obituary for Cratty remembers her as a "beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend."
