Are you or someone you know giving consideration to Right Sizing as part of a next move? It can often seem overwhelming and is certainly an emotionally driven time. Chances are you have been in your current home for a long time and with that comes a sense of comfort and familiarity. Change is not easy and like many big decisions and transitions in life; fear of the unknown leads us to making no decisions or simply settling. This is because we feel it is best to go with what we know and there is a perception that by doing nothing we are at a lower risk of being wrong. Trust you are not alone and there are significant resources available to help you sort options, explore alternatives, and find the fit that is right for you. Even if that fit is staying right where you are today.
In our experience, the most important part of any Right Sizing evaluation is timing. It's not that you have to time it perfectly; more-so that you are proactively planning so you understand your required timeline. We have seen family, spousal, and even neighbor relationships stressed when life situations remain unplanned or go unaddressed. Our homes and our communities require significant care and tending. This care and tending is needed to help maintain residential and community value. Friends, family, and community rely on each other to keep standards high so values continue to grow. We as homeowners bare the responsibility to get it done so to speak; and if we're not getting it done, our stress and the stress of those around us will escalate. The reality is that Right Sizing should not be looked at simply as change full of the unknown. Exploring alternatives in Right Sizing can be an invigorating experience full of feelings of renewal and reward. Sometimes you need outside perspective to help you take a step or two back from your own internal review or thought process to see it crystal clear.
Perhaps you have meticulously maintained your home for decades, but you're ready to move on, capitalize on your efforts financially, and spend more time with family and friends doing more of what you love. This is exactly what one of our clients desired last year in 2021. Our client loved horseback riding. This led her considerations on where she desired to move. She also wanted to be closer to family; another priority for her that helped her narrow geographic options. We were sad to see her go, but grateful to see her land in her happy place near family and an equestrian friendly area where there were daily opportunities to ride. She sounded more than thrilled with her new chapter when we spoke to her about six months after her transition. She took a risk, sold her home, and relocated to a new area for a fresh start. Our client was not alone, all of this was made easier with the help of our team and many others we pulled in for support.
Maybe you want more time to enjoy all of what life has to offer between traveling, entertainment, and the great outdoors. We had the opportunity to work with 3 separate couples in 2021 that simply wanted more quality time for themselves in their next chapter. One moved out of the area to a smaller home, located in a golf course community, and closer to family. They traded a very large single family home and acre of land that was costly and time consuming to maintain. Golf, leisure, and a slower pace of life is on their agenda daily these days. Another client downsized locally to a luxury condominium where they could close the door behind them and travel without worry for weeks at a time if they like. The third bought a smaller home closer to D.C. with more of an urban lifestyle and feel. We helped them find the perfect little cottage and provided recommendations to trusted contractors, so they could tailor their new home with all of the updates and amenities they’d dreamed about. Today, they are able to walk to restaurants, entertainment, and are a ferry ride away from a Nationals Game. Each client’s story is unique to them, but the one common theme among these clients was their interest in simplifying life so they could spend more time doing what they love.
No matter what your story is; it's unique to you and should be evaluated as such. We have helped clients Right Size and stay local. We have helped clients Right Size and relocate closer to family and their passions. In all cases our mission has always remained the same; WE WANT TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR OUR CLIENTS THROUGH REAL ESTATE.
