Traffic Alerts: Major Change at 495, I-66 Friday; Maple Ave West Closed For Parade

Thursday

Expect periodic lane/road closures to occur for tree work on Church Street throughout the day Tuesday to Friday.

DeSale Street continues to close for its reconstruction project between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Friday

Beginning Friday, the left exit from I-495 north to I-66 west will permanently close to traffic. Drivers will be required to use the existing right exit ramp, Exit 49A, I-66 west. The right exit ramp will have two lanes to accommodate the additional traffic.

Motorists will need to be in the right lane on I-495 north as they approach the I-66 interchange to access Exit 49A, I-66 west. The merge point onto Exit 49A, I-66 west has been relocated to before the I-66 overpasses., VDOT said in a press release.

The closure of the left exit ramp is necessary to shift traffic to the new Beltway outer lanes and allow progress to begin on a new HOT Lanes access ramp that will be built in place of the existing left exit for I-66 west.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution in this area as a new traffic pattern will be in place. This work is part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project.

Maple Avenue Westbound will also be closed from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Friday for the Madison High School Homecoming Parade.

SATURDAY

The Sewer Division will be cleaning the sanitary sewer mains on Maple Avenue beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday. The crew will start at Center Street and end at James Madison Drive. The crew will work until the job is completed or traffic gets too heavy, the town said on its website.

Vienna's Oktoberfest will close off the following areas Saturday. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., but vendors will begin to move in early in the morning, and pack up after the festival is over.

• Church Street, between Center and Mill Streets
• Mill Street, between Maple Avenue and Church Street*
• Dominion Road, between Church Street and Ayr Hill Road

Correction: Mill is closed from Maple to Church. Traffic can go from Church to Mill and to Ayr Hill up to Center.
