Vienna Optimist Club Names Police Officer as Award Recipient
Master Police Officer Trent Nelson received the club's Charles A. Robinson Respect for Law Award.

On July 20, the Vienna Optimist Club held their annual banquet to honor the Charles A. Robinson Respect for Law Enforcement Award recipients at the American Legion in Fairfax. Officer Trent Nelson was chosen as the Town of Vienna Police Department’s Optimist Club award winner. This award is given annually to one Vienna police officer and one Fairfax County police officer after having been nominated by their respective commanders. The award is named after longtime Vienna Mayor Charles “Charlie” A. Robinson.
Officer Nelson has been a member of the Vienna Police Department since 1992 and is currently assigned to the Patrol Section.

In his nomination of Officer Nelson, Sgt. Jim Sheeran wrote: “Officer Nelson goes well beyond the normal minimums of his duties. He continues to be a solid example for newer officers, sharing his knowledge and experience. He has been unfailingly cooperative and supportive of my efforts in leading the patrol squad.”
Officer Nelson is a patrol mountain bike officer as well as an instructor in crisis intervention, defensive tactics, field training and rape aggression defense (RAD). Prior to joining the Vienna Police Department, Officer Nelson served honorably in the United States Army.
